Blogs as businesses are like tiny publishing companies. Just like those publishing companies, blogs need a niche. There has to be something to blog about.

To use magazines as an example, "National Geographic" is about science, history, and anthropology. "Forbes" is about business. "Food & Wine" publishes recipes and feature articles epicureans love.

Finding the kind of blog you want to start can take a scientific approach, or it might just feel right.
